The Drew County Literacy Council was formed in 1987 by citizens concerned about the adult illiteracy rate reported in the 1980 census. The DCLC strives to recruit, train, and match volunteer tutors with illiterate adults in this county using The Laubach Way to Reading and Laubach way to English.
Our superior quality of education is maintained through an effective tutor-student ratio of one-to-one, with classes scheduled at convenient times. Don't take the right to read for granted. Give every adult the opportunity to acquire reading skills and increase employability.
If you have an employee functioning at or below a 5th grade reading and comprehension level, they can receive one-on-one instruction either at their job location or in a private setting.
In 1998 DCLC began taking referrals for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for Chinese, Czech Republic, Russian and Hispanic students.
If you are interested in working as a volunteer for the Literacy Council, please give us a call.
